A-Level Physics Students Explore the Future of Fusion Energy

Our Year 12 and 13 A-Level Physics students recently visited the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) in Oxfordshire for an exciting opportunity to explore the science and technology behind nuclear fusion and its potential to transform the future of energy.

During the visit, students toured the Joint European Torus (JET) facilities, gaining a fascinating insight into one of the world's most significant nuclear fusion research projects. They also explored the Remote Applications in Challenging Environments (RACE) facility, where they discovered how advanced robotics and remote-handling technology are used to support complex scientific and engineering operations.

A particular highlight of the day was the careers carousel, which gave students the opportunity to meet graduates, apprentices and industry placement students. Through these conversations, they learned about the different pathways into careers in physics, engineering and scientific research, as well as the skills and qualifications needed to succeed in these fields.

The visit provided an invaluable opportunity for students to connect their A-Level Physics learning with real-world scientific developments, particularly the ongoing research into nuclear fusion as a potential source of cleaner, more sustainable energy.

We hope this inspiring experience has encouraged our students to continue exploring the exciting possibilities that science and engineering have to offer and perhaps even consider a future career in these innovative industries.

A huge thank you to the UK Atomic Energy Authority for welcoming our students and providing such an engaging and informative experience!
